This is my dilemma in the Voice Over for Animation course at CityLit in London that I am attending at the moment. In week 2 of 6, I have already seen my fellow students take on different personas and confidently transform their voices as if flicking on a switch. At this early stage, I feel a bit of a fraud because my voice stays in orbit around my own natural sound, occasionally darting about like a wild dog on a leash, but never straying in one direction for long.
I understand that the voice and voice acting faculties are muscles that needs to be flexed, like any other. I need to practice more, experiment more and feel less inhibited when called on to perform in class. Become the character. As the tutor, Dian said; “the key is to surrender”.
